The barn swallow genome has been sequenced

The scientific journal Gigascience published the research that led to the sequencing of the barn swallow genome. Conducted by the University of Milan, the study involved scientists from California State Polytechnic University, and the University of Pavia.

SOLID project awarded with the prestigious ERC Synergy Grant 2018

Resulting from a synergy between Maurizio Ferrera, The University of Milan, Hanspeter Kriesi, European University Institute, and Waltraud Schelkle, London School of Economics, the project aims at envisaging scenarios and perspectives allowing for a politically SOLID European Union.

Einstein wins again: General Relativity confirmed on cosmological scales

In a Letter appearing on Nature Astronomy, scientists from the Universities of Milano and Durham confirm the validity of Einstein's theory on the largest scales ever tested. A direct implication of the study is that the ubiquitous dark energy is confirmed to be a necessary ingredient to explain the accelerated expansion of our Universe.

The prestigious recognition for the Bioinformatics laboratory of the Department of Computer Science Giovanni Degli Antoni of the University of Milan comes from the International Medical Informatics Association, for the development of an innovative computational system that allows the identification of gene/disease associations for a large range of human pathologies.

Scientists mapped the hybrid cells that may lead to metastasis

A group of researchers – part of the Centre for Complexity and Biosystems (CC&B) from the University of Milan – drew a map of the transitions that can lead tumour cells to become metastatic. The study was published on PNAS.

LERU, double investment to boost Europe's competitiveness

13 European associations signed the statement that calls upon the EU institutions to double the investment in research, innovation and education. The initiative was launched by the League of European Research Universities, that includes the University of Milan.

LifeTime consortium, a visionary proposal for an EU Flagship

The new electrodes that can be tattooed on the body using biocompatible ink

Advanced Science published the study on the technique for printing electrodes directly on temporary tattoo paper, through an ink jet printer, implemented by research teams of IIT Pontedera, University of Milan La Statale and Scuola Superiore S. Anna di Pisa.

Master degree programmes: application now open

International students can now apply online to one of the master degree programmes without entrance examination offered by The University of Milan for the academic year 2018-2019. Students who have an Italian qualification can apply for the moment only to open access master degree programmes taught in English.
